#ShowUsYourTalos
It's been a while since we did this, and even longer since we showed an actual Talos system, but here's Martin Kukač's Blackbird's new sexy case to contain its 8-core CPU, 32GB RAM and GeForce 210 GPU. The polished metal and open bottom, plus the vertical row of ports and power, make for a nice transitional look from the old Power Mac G5.
If you've got a well-coiffed OpenPOWER workstation to show off, post in the comments. Plus, somebody has to have an actual T2 or T2 Lite they're proud of, or I'm going to have to come up with a new hash tag.
I'm gonna be honest, I'm not especially enthralled by recent computer case design, but this just looks very slick in a way a lot of cases wish they did. Thumbs up to Martin!
ReplyDeleteSay what you will about old beige boxes, but I found most of them to be simple and functional. I like the screwless designs most modern cases are adopting, but I greatly dislike all the corners and angles and ridges like a messed up quartz crystal.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to put a fully-loaded Talos in a Dune Pro case...
Cases from the late 1990s and 2000s absolutely had ridges in spades, but they used them in a different way.
DeleteI would love to show off the beige & grey Chenbro case that will house my Blackbird, but am currently waiting for the motherboard and CPU I ordered in late September. A friend is also printing replacement faceplates for the Blu-ray drive and USB 3.0 front panel that will better complement the aesthetic I'm going for than the current regime of, "they can have any color they want, as long as it's black" for consumer PCs. But I am excited for it all to come together, and in the mean time I'll be getting comfortable with the dual 2GHz Power Mac G5 I snagged for $70 on Craigslist.
ReplyDeleteNice! Advise when it comes in and I'll feature it.
